Artist Bio
Rachel Favelle is a Pop Surreal artist and illustrator whose work is inspired by the Australian flora and fauna she grew up surrounded by.
She holds a Bachelor of Visual Art in Illustration and a Bachelor of Education from Griffith University, and remains a practising visual arts teacher alongside her own creative practice.
Her work has shown across Australia and internationally in Portugal, the United States and New Zealand, including a solo exhibition in Chicago and finalist placings in the Doyle Art Prize and Lethbridge 20000.
Rachel has also published a children's picture book, The Bear Hug, and mentors emerging artists through the Mastrius program.
Working meticulously in oils, Rachel creates fantastical worlds populated by quirky, otherworldly characters. Her paintings celebrate the wonder of childhood imagination while offering a deeper commentary on wildlife conservation and the connection between human nature and the natural world.
Workshops with Rachel
A practising visual arts teacher, Rachel brings a patient, detailed approach to her workshops, many of which draw on the natural world that inspires her own work.
Her two-part Botanical Illustration series explores seed pods through drawing, texture, tone and watercolour, and is ideal for beginners. Surreal Botanical Art invites you to create whimsical compositions where nature meets imagination, while Miniature Bird Painting blends native birdlife with botanical and surreal touches in acrylic for those with some painting experience. For artists wanting to find their direction, Discovering Your Artistic Style takes the guesswork out of developing a signature aesthetic.
