Artist Bio
Jo Kaiser is an abstract expressionist artist based at Studio 8 Currumbin, where she also practices as an Art Therapy Practitioner following her 2025 studies. She is an affiliate artist with Studio on Brunswick, where she held her solo exhibition 'Boketto' in 2025, and was runner up in the 2025 Husk Ink Gin Award.
Her work has also featured in Studio 8's Eclectica Exhibition, the Murwillumbah Arts Trail, and commissions for private collectors and medical practices across the Gold Coast.
Jo paints from emotion rather than plan, letting her large scale oil and mixed media works evolve as she creates them. Built up in layers with oil sticks and hand stitching, her paintings are deliberately messy and moody, leaving space for viewers to find their own meaning. She is currently developing a new body of work for her solo exhibition in September 2026, exploring the deeper, more hidden emotions we all carry.
Workshops with Jo
Alongside her studio practice, Jo runs a range of small, relaxed workshops for all experience levels. Her Exploring Watercolour sessions introduce Steiner-style watercolour using ink, oil pastels and a simple Stockmar palette, with participants taking home two finished paintings ready to frame.
Intuitive Painting is a one-day expressive workshop that begins with a guided visualisation and invites you to paint from feeling rather than plan. For something ongoing, her five-week Art Classes cover drawing, colour mixing and still life in small groups, with all materials supplied. No experience is needed for any of them, just a willingness to get a little creative.
